First there was Movember. Then there was Veganuary. Now here comes STEPtember!

This September, Mums for Lungs is encouraging people to change their travel routine to help reduce air pollution and lead healthier lives. By choosing to walk, cycle or use public transport - and therefore driving less - we can all make positive changes to our lives and the environment around us.

We would love you to join us. Can you pledge to give up your car for a month, to drive less, or to reduce your home deliveries?

To get involved, please say how you're planning to change your routine to include less driving. We would love to feature pictures of participants with pledges on our social media platforms. Please post your pictures on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtags #Steptember and #MumsForLungs, and don’t forget to tag us @mumsforlungs. Alternatively, just send us your pledge and a photo by email ( and we'll take care of the rest.

Examples of pledges include:
I will step into September and walk my children to school every day.
I won't drive on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during September.
I will only have a delivery once a week during September.
I will use an Amazon locker/Click and Collect for the whole of September.

Set the new school year off to a good start by making a positive change to the way you move around. Enjoy the benefits of increased exercise, save fuel, money and time by avoiding traffic queues, and get out there and enjoy the last of the Great British Summer! And you'll be making the air in your community cleaner at the same time.

We'll be cheering you on along the way, and look forward to hearing your progress. Thank you for being an air quality champion!
