We are deeply concerned that our political leaders are underestimating the twin crises of air pollution and climate change.

On 28th July the High Court ruled that London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is lawful; subsequently, our Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, stated that he is “on the motorist’s side”.

Mr Sunak then announced new licences for oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, a move which goes against the U.K.’s climate commitments.

Keir Starmer’s suggestion that the Mayor of London “reflect” on the ULEZ, and the backtracking from Labour on their support for clean air zones, indicates a lack of strong support from the opposition for proven clean air measures.

Today’s leaders are not taking responsibility for protecting our children while their lungs are vulnerable and growing, or for the future of our environment. In the run-up to the next general election, these issues need to rise to the top of the agenda. Manifestos are being written - please email our leaders now.
