Air pollution affects everyone
Air pollution is the release of gases and particles into the air.
When these are breathed in, they can affect your lungs and travel into every part of your body.
The Facts
Air pollution is linked to asthma, heart disease, stroke, lung cancer and more.
Less than half of people in Lambeth and Southwark own a car or van.
Around half of the NO2 pollution (one of the worst pollutants) in London comes from road transport.
The health burden of dirty air in London isn’t equal. People of colour and those on lower incomes are more likely to live in an area with higher pollution.

Want to know how you can reduce your exposure
and contribution to air pollution?
Walk quieter back streets
…and away from the edge of the kerb.
The further away you are from congestion, the less toxic air you’re breathing in.
Shop local
Most online orders and deliveries involve a diesel van - can you group your deliveries or collect them from a locker? Or shop locally on foot and by bike?
Limit car use
If you own a car, can you try to use it only for long journeys - over a third of all the car trips made by London residents are less than 2km and could be walked in many cases.
Who are Mums for Lungs?
We’re Mums for Lungs, a group of London parents campaigning for clean air for everyone.
We started campaigning in Brixton in 2017 when a number of
us were on maternity leave together. Walking around South London with our babies, we became aware of the toxic levels of air pollution on our streets, and we wanted to do something about it.
