“Volunteering with Mums For Lungs has opened so many doors for me - and by getting a seat at the table with my local politicians, I feel like I’m making a real positive difference to my children’s future.”
— Beth

Our Barnet group is led by Beth and Frances. The focus of the group has been on political engagement: meeting with and lobbying the Leader of the Council and the Cabinet Member for Environment to take more ambitious action on air pollution.

The group has a good working relationship with local MP Sarah Sackman, and is looking for new volunteers with a particular focus on doing more local awareness-raising via local schools and community events.

Brent, London

Amandine and Sharon running a Mums for Lungs stall at Queens Park Day.

Amandine led our Brent group for several years, campaigning tirelessly for cleaner air across the borough, including helping to organise schools workshops and speaking at community events like Queens Park Day. In May 2026, that work paid off in an unexpected way: Amandine was elected as a local councillor - a fantastic result for the group!

We're looking for new members to keep the momentum going on the ground in Brent. Please get in touch to join in.

“I volunteer with Mums For Lungs because, as a group, we are making a difference for our children across the UK. Clean air is one of the building blocks of good health.

Mums for Lungs are a great bunch of women and men. You keep me going and you keep me sane!”

Greenwich, London

We have several long-standing, experienced volunteers in Greenwich, who've kept up the pressure for action. In the last year, they've pushed for action on paediatric hospital admissions, campaigned against wood burning, and done some awareness-raising in schools.

There's lots to be improved in Greenwich, which is lagging on School Streets and wood burning action, and we are keen to increase our people power to do this!

“I volunteer with Mums for Lungs because it makes me feel hopeful for change. Single voices are often not heard but as a collective, we’re louder, and our messages that promote the right to clean air for all are being heard.”

Lambeth, London

Lambeth is where Mums for Lungs was founded - it’s very much our campaigning heartland. Our lobbying directly led to Lambeth Council’s decision to rollout School Streets across the borough.

We’ve been working with children in Lambeth schools on air pollution for a number of years. Lambeth Council has a strong track record of implementing policies that reduce air pollution and improve children’s health, but we’re keen to see that this ambition and work continue, especially with the new Green Administration. The Lambeth group is looking for volunteers to get involved in holding the local authority to account and raising awareness of air pollution in local communities.

We have had volunteers in Lewisham for a number of years but have recently started a dedicated Lewisham group.

The group is actively seeking new members. We’re keen to influence the Council and to do more work in the community to raise awareness of air pollution, in particular of the harms of wood burning.

Please let us know if you’re in Lewisham and would like to join our group.

Southwark, London

A School Street celebration at Lyndhurst Primary School in Southwark.

We have a strong group of experienced campaigners in Southwark who have already made good connections with the new Green/Lib Dem-run Council.

Mums for Lungs is also working with many school communities in Southwark.

We’re looking for new members in Southwark to make the most of the current Council consultation opportunities, and to raise awareness in schools and other local communities.

Wandsworth, London

Members of our Wandsworth group brainstorming campaign ideas.

We have a long-standing group of campaigners in Wandsworth, two of whom are part of the Wandsworth Council Air Quality Ambassadors Scheme.

We would love volunteers to join this group to increase our capacity to lobby the Council for more ambition on air pollution, and particularly for more School Streets. We’re also keen to do more community awareness-raising events across Wandsworth.

Let us know if you’d like to be part of our group!

Birmingham

As the Mums for Lungs Spokesperson in Birmingham, Kirsten leads our local group and campaigning. The group has been hugely successful in building relationships with local politicians, council officers and school communities to raise awareness and to increase action to improve the air Birmingham children breathe. The group were directly responsible for last year’s wood burning awareness campaign by Birmingham City Council.

Birmingham is a big city and we’re keen to have more volunteers across the city to get involved in local awareness-raising events and reach more communities.

Please contact us if you’d like to get involved!

Nottingham

Members of our Nottingham group taking part in the Green Hustle.

Our Nottingham group is based at Haydn Primary School and has been campaigning since 2024 for cleaner air around the school.

We meet regularly, inviting local politicians to our meetings. We have links with other local primary schools and have taken part in events such as the annual Nottingham Green Hustle, a free interactive festival that brings communities together.

We’re looking for parents and local people to help us bring cleaner air to more Nottingham schools.

Sheffield

We have very recently started a Mums for Lungs group in Sheffield. Their first campaign action was to gather outside Sheffield Children’s Hospital to highlight the high number of children’s hospital admissions and presentations to A&E for breathing issues in 2025.

It’s early days but we have several people and lots of ideas.

Come and get involved! This is your chance to help shape the group from the ground up.
