Environmental Audit Committee chooses air pollution for its next inquiry

24th January 2026

The week before Christmas, we were delighted to hear that the Environmental Audit Committee has chosen air pollution for its next inquiry. This was after a pitch to the committee on behalf of the clean air movement, from our founder Jemima Hartshorn and Dr Nat Easton of the University of Southampton.

The pitch highlighted the continued lack of public awareness around air pollution, alongside the Government’s ongoing failure to take meaningful action on this critical issue. We’re really grateful for all the hard work from so many on this. You can watch the pitch here (from 15:19:45), and see what the Environmental Audit Committee had to say about it afterwards.

In the inquiry, MPs will explore air pollution’s impact on health and the environment, whether the current air quality targets are strong enough and whether local authorities in England have the resources they need to monitor air quality and enforce existing rules. The inquiry was launched on 20th January and closes on 3rd March, and we encourage you to respond with your thoughts and ideas.
