Greater Manchester School Streets
Imagine a Greater Manchester with less traffic, more greenery, and children who can walk and cycle to school safely. We’re thinking less pollution, better health and more joy!
School Streets are one way to achieve this - they make the journey to school less polluted, calmer, safer and healthier by reducing traffic and air pollution around schools, and by encouraging walking, cycling and scooting.
Some areas of GM are working faster than others on introducing School Streets, and we want to help ensure as many schools benefit as possible. Please send our GM-ordinator Liz a message if you’d like to know more - and especially if you’re in the boroughs of Bury, Rochdale, Oldham or Tameside.
Mums for Lungs campaigns for clean air because air pollution permanently damages children’s health, and GM has some of the highest air pollution levels in the country. More School Streets are needed across GM to protect children’s health. Read more about these transformational schemes here.
