Responding to Bromley’s Air Quality Action Plan consultation
6th October 2026
Bromley Council is currently consulting on its draft Air Quality Action Plan (2027-2031), and we’ve written some guidance to help you respond. The proposed plan is weak, and we’d like to ensure as many people as possible respond to the consultation to help the council strengthen the plan to protect public health.
Our main points:
Only 2 of the plan's 45 proposed actions are rated as offering a large air quality benefit, and neither tackles road transport, the borough's largest source of pollution, or domestic wood burning, its second largest source of fine particles (PM2.5).
PM2.5 particle pollution has risen to its highest level in the borough since the PM2.5 monitor was installed in 2020.
Between 2024 and 2025, nitrogen dioxide rose slightly at 44% of the borough's diffusion tube monitoring sites. Yet the plan doesn't mention this data.
Actions to reduce both PM2.5 and NO2 need to be far stronger.
The consultation closes on Sunday 18th October, and we've put together an easy-to-use guide with suggested points you can adapt to help submit your response.
The link to the consultation can be found here. Please respond by 18th October, asking for far stronger actions that will meaningfully reduce air pollution across the borough!
