Sign our open letter for a Clean Air Act

29th April 2026

The King's Speech is coming. Together with thousands of individuals across the country, we've called on the Prime Minister to seize the moment and commit to delivering cleaner air for every child in Britain.

66 organisations and more than 600 families and individuals, representing over 233,000 people from across the country, signed our open letter to the Prime Minister ahead of the speech on 13th May. Thank you to all who signed and supported this!

The scale of the problem

The air we breathe is making us sick, and it's getting worse. Healthy life expectancy in the UK is falling, our air quality targets trail behind the World Health Organization and the EU, and pollution-related hospital visits are putting unnecessary pressure on the NHS. The diesel scandal alone has caused 30,000 cases of childhood asthma and £96bn in economic damage since 2009. Children are in hospital, missing school. Parents can't work. Most of this suffering is preventable.

Cleaning up our air and improving the nation’s health could not be more urgent. Keir Starmer has committed to creating the healthiest generation of children ever, fixing the NHS, and stabilising the economy. He also committed to a Clean Air Act in 2023. Yet without reducing air pollution significantly, none of those goals is achievable.

This King's Speech is the moment to deliver.
